​We are a Primary School in Solihull in the centre of the country. There is provision from 2 till 11 year old and there are 350 children on roll. There are over 300 pupils on roll and 27 teaching staff, both teachers and teaching assistants.

 

Ulverley is motivated to take part in this project because:

• Focus on developing a love of reading

• Develop an understanding and respect for different cultures

•Acquire appropriate knowledge, skills and processes which are enabling in the fields of work and recreation

• Develop a sense of involvement and belonging both within the school and the wider community

• Embedding ‘Talk for Writing’ through stories, play scripts, drama, making stories for younger children etc.

 

Key people involved in the project:

1. Anke Lanham (mfl co-ordinator, project leader)

2. Katie Burke (year 5 class teacher, phase leader)

3. Caroline Albanese (year 1 teacher, literacy co-ordinator)

4. In case the project leader leaves, Katie Burke will take over.

Specific experience: We have been involved in many events around literature such as library challenges, reading with parents, creating stories and performances, Forest School experiences, St George’s Day where the children developed understanding of various cultural backgrounds within the community.
